Subject Areas:
- Assess the challenges associated with diagnosing EPM in horses, including the strengths and limitations of serological tests, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, imaging techniques, and novel diagnostic approaches aimed at improving accuracy and reliability
- Assess the diagnostic challenges and specific laboratory techniques available for accurate identification and differentiation of EHV-5 from other equine herpesviruses
- Generate an appropriate differential list and diagnostics for chronic weight loss and respiratory disease in horses
- Be familiar with submitting fresh and formalin-fixed tissue samples to a diagnostic laboratory, including appropriate tissue:formalin ratios and how to avoid formalin freezing in winter months
- Generate appropriate differentials and diagnostics for viral encephalitis in horses
