This course is based on a previously recorded Zoom webinar.

Medical Decision Making and Bias

This course has been reviewed by the Oklahoma Veterinary Board and meets the requirements for 1 hour of CE.  If you are licensed in another state, please note many states accept CE when it is offered (1) as approved by another state board (OSU CVM CE is Oklahoma Board approved); or (2) offered by an accredited veterinary school (OSU CVM is an accredited school).  Please satisfy yourself as to your state's requirements.

This course must be fully completed during the license renewal period in order to be accepted as continuing education. Courses started in one license renewal period and later finished in the following license renewal period are only accepted in the latter renewal period once fully complete.

Introduction

In this module, you will learn about Medical Decision Making and Bias.

What You Will Learn

  • Participants will learn about differences in bias between human medicine and veterinary medicine.
  • Participants will discuss different types of bias and will work through how to handle these in practice.
  • Participants will look at cases where bias could easily occur and worked through avoiding the bias.
  • Participants will discuss how decisions may be impacted by bias without knowing it.
  • Participants will talk through ways to prevent bias by ensuring a thorough examination.

Learning Activities

Students will attend a video lecture and complete a final assessment.

Course Notice: Non-credit courses and Continuing Education Units (CEs or CEUs) do not post to the Oklahoma State official transcript and do not count towards an academic record. CE students do not receive a University ID card and will not be granted access to University facilities such as recreation, transportation, and campus events.
